Water Oak Tree Removal on Campus Scheduled on 7/29
A water oak tree near the South end of campus has been evaluated by a certified pest control specialist. Unfortunately, due to severe damage from termites, its removal has been deemed necessary for the safety of our campus community.
On Friday, July 29, please use caution when traveling Southbound on Rolfe Christopher Drive as campus operations works to safely remove the tree from campus grounds.
About water oak trees: Water Oaks have weaker wood and are much more susceptible to rot and termite damage than their Live Oak counterparts. In fact, the water oak trunk is often rotten by the time the tree is 30-50 years old. Additionally, the water oaks are generally hollowed in the center, making it much more challenging in detecting the termites at an early stage.
